I Just Can’t Shut Up

Today is my day on Self Portrait Day, and I had to laugh at myself, because I just CAN’T answer the questions succinctly, apparently. Hi Jennifer, where do you live? OH blather blather blather and did I tell you about the time I got caught chewing gum back in Iowa and about the wild dogs? And about my body gnomes?

I think it’s fitting that, on self portrait day, I am laughing at myself. I was branded a Social Butterfly at the age of 9, and it’s never stopped. I love people, meeting new people, talking to strangers while we wait in line, making tiny connections with the world, because even though there are idiots and jerks and bad drivers (GOD there are bad drivers) out there, there are amazing human beings who also wanna say “hi” and who care about each other, whether it’s in line at the grocery store or across the miles via a computer. Everyone has a story & they just want, to quote John Prine, someone to say, “Hello in there……”

Cheers to all of you, because as long as there’s more of us than them, the world will be a better place.

I’ve always been called a “social butterfly” too, and my parents STILL ask me where I get it from.

Hmm, I wonder if the milkman was outgoing?

How does J Wo deal with your wanting to chat people up in lines? Kevy McKeverson wants to hide under a rock when I do it. As my father says, “I know no strangers.” Although I have seen some STRANGE ones on the bus and walking around downtown Portland!!

This has absolutley nothing to do with your post, but did you know that ABC Extreme Home Make Over is in Kansas City?!?!?! They are at 79th and BlueRidge, well really James A Reed, but Blue Ridge is more recognizable. They announced the address on the radio, so I think it is okay to say where it is. Anyways, it is right near where I live, I so want to go hunt down Ty. That made me smile today, so I thought you should know.

J Wo has gotten a lot more comfortable with it. He’ll even chime in now. He used to flip out and get panicky – and he still does, when it involves me gettin’ up in somebody’s face about a problem. He’s way more pacifist & let-it-go-J Wo, whereas I’m more YO YO YO YO I deserve better. He actually initiated StrangerDangerTalk on Monday, when we exited Gates’ BBQ and he let go of the door on me & it cracked me in the arm – I, of course, squawked, and he was immediately apologetic & grabbed the (very heavy) door to re-open it – for some dude leaving with a bag of food! I was doing the BIPBIPBIPBIPBIP fine-open-the-door-for-HIM-slam-it-on-ME speech and JWo explained to the guy he’d just shut the door on me, and StrangerGuy was laughing & telling him ‘ALWAYS make the wife happy, man, NEVER shut the door on her, forget about me, gotta make the WIFE happy’.
    He was a smart stranger.

Re: Xtreme Home Makeover – I started to read about it in the paper & the story made me CRY. I’m so happy that family is getting a makeover – sounds like they’re really good people.

damn blogger. I’m this close to going to Typepad. Is the middle-priced plan worth the extra $?

I wanted to finish my first comment that JWo WAS trying to be nice & felt bad about letting go of the door. I was moving slowly, having been stuffed to the brim with saucy smoked meat. Now I’m moving slowly because I have a head cold. BLEAH.

That’s such a cute pic of you. I’ve thought of you as a social butterfly, just from your smile. You just look like you’d be fun to be around.
